I
debated grabbing a second kicker, but ultimately decided that it
wasn’t a necessity at this juncture. Instead, I worked through
a number of receiving options and settled on Davis. The Chicago
receiving corps is still unsettled, and Davis (35 catches for
445 yards in 2008) should have an opportunity to compete for a
large
role to help usher in the Jay Cutler era in Chicago. If he slips
on the depth chart in camp, I’ll circle back for that second
kicker or a different receiver. Until then, I’ll settle in and
watch him compete.

A second DT is
required and the Colts can be a positive backup. They were so
poor vs the run, that much of
the FF public remembers them as a
weak unit. Not so fast. IND was good against the pass (because
they
were so run-weak) and offensive scoring. Sacks, takeaways, and
TD scoring are used in scoring, where IND was pretty
average I expect they will be our best-ball starters
several weeks.

We debated another pass catcher
(Bryant Johnson DET) or a RB#5 here for our last roster
spot. In truth, Johnson likely will outscore Betts this year,
but the upside for Betts was far higher. And with the patience
we showed in drafting RB#2 and RB#3, this longshot was one
worth taking. If the oft-dinged Portis goes down, Betts will
step in and be a very solid RB#2 in any scoring format. Portis
is also a very "old" 28-years old and has a lot of
mileage on him, so a breakdown could always be imminent. Just
keep him available for the press conferences...

There is one.....count
'em, one.....reason to draft Chris Redman in 2009.
Said reason being you've got Matt Ryan on your roster
and have to keep drafted players all season.
If that's your scenario,
do what I did. Cuff 'im.

Really just a "best-available
D" pick at this point. I had hoped the Cardinals D
would fall but they didn't, I did think about the Jags D here
too, but ultimately liked the upside of the 49'ers better.
They scored a lot last
year and are an up and comer in the team D world so I'll take
my chances with them. I was targeting
someone from the NFC West as that division just looks easiest
to me this year which left either the 49'ers or Rams D and I
much prefer the 49'ers as I'm not entirely sure that the Rams
have a defense at all this year.

So I pick my second player not
currently on a roster after Plaxico Burress. I would
expect that James will
have an opportunity to come in to someone's camp and split
some carries. In essence, he had all of 2008
to rest his aging bones and is worth a flyer in the last
round.

making it through all of 2008 as the Seahawks' kicker, and not
ceding time to Brandon Coutu, was
a big surprise. Now I hope he can do it again. I expect
Seattle
's offense to improve with fewer injuries,
especially to QB Matt Hasselbeck, and that could help Mare score
even more. I realize, however, that he
could be booted in favor of Coutu at any time.

Brown is my third PK. Don't giggle. It's not as weird as you
might first think. Last season, the three
kickers successfully split starts (Folk-4, Gostkowski-6,
Gould-7) in this best-ball scoring format. When the
Rams fail
near the redzone, they must rely on their points from Brown. I am expecting a few 34-16 Rams' games. Aren't you?

(insert

And the 2009 FAD's Mr. Irrelevant is... Keenan Burton!!
(wait for applause)
Yes, we only have one defense, and if we would have selected one
it would have been the Jags, but we've been taking a bye week
zero on defense for years in the FAD and it hasn't hurt us yet.
The Eagles D will be
just fine for us on an every week basis. So we bolstered
our WR corps with Burton. OK, maybe 'bolstered' is too strong a
word for a guy who only caught 13 passes all last year - but we
couldn't pass up a #2 WR on a team that is going to be forced to
chuck the ball around to stay in games. We also figure
that between our earlier pick of Avery and now Burton we're
bound to hit a good week or two when the Rams strike pay-dirt.
(take final bow)
(accept bouquet of roses from FAD stage manager)
(exit stage left)
