Final Analysis

 14.01
Mike Harmon
QB Brett Favre
QB: Romo Edwards Favre  RB: Slaton Ward TJones Greene McCoy
WR: Moss Housh Driver Holt Crayton TE: Shiancoe PK: DT:

Somebody had to take a shot and, given the remaining QB selections for my third arm, Favre was worth a look-see. The thrills may not come as regularly as they once did. However, he’s not having surgery to prepare for the post-career bocce tournament circuit.

14.02
Matt Pitzer (via Allan trade)
RB Sammy Morris
QB: Rivers Palmer  RB: Jones-Drew Grant Lewis Norwood Morris
WR: Wayne RWilliams SMoss Curtis Heyward-Bay TE: Olsen PK: DT:

The depth chart in New England is pretty crowded and Morris might even have a role, despite looking like the team's best back at times over the past two seasons. It seems like I always wind up with Morris in one league or another and he has a stretch of 3-4 weeks of being very valuable. I'm happy to take that chance again here.

14.03

Chris Rito | Mike Nazarek
DT Vikings
QB: Warner Hasselbeck  RB: Westbrook Addai Parker C Taylor
WR: AJohnson Colston Boldin Chambers
TE: Daniels Miller  PK: DT: Ravens Vikings

We are sure that this was a little curve ball in some people's eyes. We debated taking Minnesota with our last selection as they also have a very favorable strength of schedule. The possible loss of the Williams' boys for
4 games is a minor concern, but....absolutely loading up this position seemed like a better use of the 14th round selection than another scrub WR with no real differentiation from the guy we will get in round 15. This
duo will give us two really good chances at a high score from this "peripheral" position which should give us
a huge edge on our opponents and could also start a run that will help a slightly better RB or WR slide to us at our next selection.

14.04

John Georgopoulos
WR Antwaan Randle El
QB: Cutler EManning RB: D Williams Portis Lynch R Williams
WR: DJackson Breaston Walter Hester Bruce Randle El
TE: Gates PK: DT: Steelers

Continuing the search for receivers, I had two choices: SLIM and NONE.  Again, I am hoping to cobble
together players that have the potential for 2-3 solid games a season, and hope that the RB rotation
produces he bulk of the points, especially out of the flex position. El is at least a starter (for now), so that’s
the silver lining of this pick…

14.05
Brian Hulett
RB Kevin Faulk
QB: Ryan Bulger  RB: Gore McFadden Stewart McClain Faulk
WR: Jennings Marshall Henderson Coles Camarillo Jenkins TE: Cooley PK: DT:
I'm always amused when fantasy owners whine about the way NFL coaches' decisions foul up their fantasy teams.  Guys and gals, Bill Belichick couldn't care less if his RBBC approach frustrates your plans for Lawrence Maroney week after week, so get over yourself.  Choosing which of his RBs or WRs to play each week has long been a crapshoot, and while this is less so nowadays with his wideouts it remains so with his backfield.

Case in point:  Maroney and Sammy Morris have already been drafted, yet it was Faulk who posted four
20-pt games in our scoring format last year.  FOUR.  And here he is still available in the 14th round, although
at age 32 he easily outpointed both of those guys AND new guy not-so-fast-Freddie Taylor last season.

KFaulk tends to slip through the cracks in every year's draft because he doesn't start, yet in the second half of each season he's tempting us on the waiver wire because he posts one of those 6-catch, 80-yd, 2-TD games or something, but nobody wants him on their roster because we never know if it'll happen again.  In our best-
ball format all I need to know is that it'll happen sometime, that he'll post starter-quality numbers at least twice, and he's more likely to help my team than anybody else I see out there in the 14th round.  And that is enough.

14.06

Craig Davis (via Holm/Cannon trade)
DT Cowboys
QB: Schaub Cassel  RB: Forte Barber FJones Jackson Maroney

WR: Bowe Edwards Holmes Austin Harvin  TE: Carlson  PK: DT: cowboys

14.07

Duane Cahill
TE Dustin Keller
QB: Manning Flacco RB: SJackson Jacobs LJohnson Mendenhall
WR: Royal Ward Crabtree Burress Henry Engram TE: Gonzalez Keller  PK: DT:
The problem sometimes with drafting with a group of experts is that you're very aware that everyone else is very aware of sleepers.  With that in mind, I've been considering drafting Keller since round 11, but kept passing because Tony Gonzalez is already on my roster.  Since then, I've seen such luminaries as Brent Celek and Visanthe Shiancoe drafted.  I just can't continue to let Keller fall.

Keller was second among rookie TEs last year only to John Carlson, but certainly has more potential than Carlson.  With new QB Mark Sanchez often sure to be looking for a safe outlet, I am expecting a vast improvement over last year's 48-535-3.  I can see him in the neighborhood of 75-800-6.

In my years of FanEx, I have never had the luxury of two point-producers at TE, but this year I'm certain that there will be weeks that Keller counts as my flex player.

14.08

TC Cannon (via Davis trade)
QB JaMarcus Russell
QB: Brees Russell RB: Turner Moreno FTaylor Charles
WR: Fitzgerald SMoss Cotchery Moore Nicks TE: Winslow Shockey PK: DT:
Great news! This Russell selection as a bench QB was all part of a master plan. Yep it was. Brees will be the 14 week starter and the unpolished, unproven, undraftable Raider will contribute with three outstanding starts, while rushing for multiple TDs... Buzzz.. Buzzz. Buzz. (Stretch) (Yawn) . Oh my! Now I must wake up to this FanEx dream and admit that this selection is likely a fantasy nightmare.

Oh, Russell could do this or do that, and be the spark plug that ignites the Raiders to a winning season. He could also continue to be as disappointing as possible for the entire 2009 season. Other than being a  sure NFL starter,  I certainly don't know what to expect from the former #1 overall draft choice.

14.09

Greg Kellogg
RB Justin Fargas
QB: Brady DelHomme RB: Tomlinson Wells DBrown Fargas
WR: Owens VJackson Mason SSmith Burleson Britt
TE: Clark  PK: DT::
Last time I checked, Justin Fargas was on top of the depth chart in Oakland.  While I do expect Darren McFadden to take away some carries, there are three starting caliber ball carriers in Oakland and Fargas is one of them.  While I don't expect huge numbers from him, if I can get a couple starts from a 14th round pick
in this best ball format, I will be one happy guy.

===================================================================================

14.10

Ian Allan (via Pitzer trade)
TE Heath Miller
QB: Roethlisberger Garrard  RB: Bush White Benson Rice Washington Bradshaw
WR: SSmith Welker Gonzalez Ochocinco Muhammad
TE: Celek Miller PK: DT:
I think Miller probably will catch 5-6 TDs and about 35 passes. He’s the No. 11 tight end on my board. I think he’ll combo nicely
with Brent Celek, giving me a nice Pennsylvania one-two punch at this position.

===================================================================================

14.11

Craig Davis (via Cannon trade)
TE Tony Scheffler
QB: Schaub Cassel  RB: Forte Barber FJones Jackson Maroney

WR: Bowe Edwards Holmes Austin Harvin  TE: Carlson Scheffler  PK: DT: Cowboys
New Broncos HC Josh McDaniels has been singing this guy's praises since the beginning of OTAs. Scheffler will be used in multiple sets and could find himself being used in the red zone more this year than in years past.
===================================================================================

14.12

Chris Dolfi | Tom Walls
TE Anthony Fasano
QB: Rodgers Hill Pennington RB: Peterson RBrown JJones Hightower Graham
WR: White Evans Avery Ginn Gage
TE: Fasano  PK: DT:
Ok, we admit it - we waited too long to get a TE.  We also underestimated the value some TEs had in the
other expert's eyes.  We thought Celek would last much later than he did, but kudos to Ian Allen for snapping him up in the 11th.  There was only one TE left on the board that had any real upside at all, so we grab
Anthony Fasano and hope for the best.  Fasano broke out last year after the move to Miami (and out from under the shadow of Jason Witten in Dallas) and grabbed 7 TDs for an improved Dolphins offense, proving
he could be a real goal-line weapon for Chad Pennington. Sure, Fasano only caught 34 passes and didn't crack the 500 yard mark, but with another year under his belt, and the growing confidence of the Miami
caching staff and QB - we think Fasano is more likely than any of the other names left at TE to have a real impact in 2009.
