He’s
a picture-perfect backup to Brian Westbrook. 'Shady' McCoy
proved to be durable and versatile in his college career, and he
could be a nice complement to Westbrook. Of course, I was also
envisioning 2-3 starts in Westbrook’s absence.

I’ve got the four
stud receivers, but I need to add a fifth competent player at
the position. I expect all four of the big guns at wide receiver
to have plenty of big games (there’s a “flex” position in
this league, so all four can play), but they’ll all have byes
and off games, so there will be room for Muhammad to contribute
any time he comes up with a serviceable game. According to my
stat projections, Muhammad will be more productive
than any running backs or tight ends that are left — remember,
point per reception in this league. Muhammad caught 65 passes
for 923 yards and 5 TDs last year, and I figure he’ll finish
in that range again. He’s old — 36 — but Carolina more
than any other team runs its passing game through its starting
wide receivers. They
don’t throw to their backs, they don’t throw to their tight
ends, and they rarely use their No. 3 receiver.

We debated three WRs at 11.10, and
two of them went in the last few picks...so I guess our choice
is easy now. Gee thanks, guys <g>.
Coming off an injury-plagued 2008
season, there is concern that Chambers at age 30 might be
washed up.
But he did score 5 TDs in the first five games last year
before getting hurt and never really recovering all season.
After joining the Chargers in midseason 2007, he
basically played one full season of games before getting hurt
last year and scored 9 TDs....if we get anything approaching
that total in 2009, this will be a
bargain as the 52nd WR taken. He has the potential to be a top
receiving threat in a few games for a high-powered offense -
we can't ask more at this point in the draft than a
history of production and the
potential to be a big play playmaker.

Note: Effective today, John Georgopoulos
has agreed to adopt this team.
Stepping into this situation, I can see that the Sports
Grumblings' BDDM was not employed... which means
this team is officially a crapshoot! Adjusting on the fly, I'll
attempt to pick up big-play potential in lieu of competent
receivers, of which this team has none. Thus... Ricky Williams.
He's not the 'starter", but in a best-ball format he
certainly has the ability and opportunity to put up 3-4 massive
games this season.

We get 1 pt per reception in this
league, and have very large starting rosters, so a guy like
the unexciting Camarillo, the classic possession receiver, is
nice to have for depth. His knee rehab is apparently
going
quite well and, while he may take an extra week or two getting
on the field, he averaged five catches per
game last season and should help out my squad now and then.
Other than that, there's really
nothing to see here. Move along, move along...

Domenik Hixon filled
in admirably for Plaxico Burress whenever he was suspended last
season. He has
good size and is a shifty runner that can add yards after the
catch. Eli Manning's options are limited at WR
and the Giants have stated that Hixon will be a starting WR this
season for their team. Hixon could take the
job and run with it, he has the ability to be explosive and he
certainly has the opportunity. When on the field
last year, Eli Manning used him plenty and I expect them to pick
up right where they left off. There is
downside here too
of course, Hixon drops a few balls and his world changes.

See if this sounds familiar to
you. A talented wideout comes into the league and finds
trouble. He's fined repeatedly, faces suspensions, is
required to attend anger management sessions, is accused of
taking plays off, blah blah yada yada. The saga of Chris
Henry, right?
Nope, it's the Randy Moss story.
So maybe there's something to this image rehabilitation
thing... Let's look
at the facts - it's been three years since Henry has faced a
conviction of any kind. Carson Palmer is back,
and TJ Houshmandzadeh is gone. Palmer's actually talking
like Henry could step into the WR1 role this season.
While I don't necessarily see that happening, Henry certainly
has an awful lot of upside.
The Bengals have added Laveranues
Coles to the roster to replace Housh, but Henry certainly has
the
capacity to be the #2 on this team. If he continues to
keep his head on straight, Henry could easily be worthy
of a fantasy WR3, maybe even a WR2. But as a WR5 on my
team, he could well be a tremendous value.

Gotta take a stab at Maroney here
before it gets too late. Yes, I realize the Pats added Fred
Taylor and they have plenty of other RBs to work with, but I'm
still not sold on the fact that Maroney can't succeed in this
league. If he even finishes at 50% of his predicted production,
he'll be worth the pick in the 12th round.

Last

unknown. Kenny Britt would seem to have a clear
path to a starting role. This 6'3" rookie set became
the Big East's all time leading receiver by gaining 3,043
receiving yards in just 34 games, surpassing even the great
Larry Fitzgerald. He also had 14 100-yard
games during his career, tying another Big East record. I
had considered others here but I like the size that
he brings to the table in the red zone game.

I
can’t believe Bradshaw hasn’t been selected. He’s higher
on my draft board than 15 of the running backs
who have already been selected.
He’ll be New York’s No. 2 tailback, and that’s a team that
runs the ball extremely well. The starter there, Brandon Jacobs,
takes too much of a beating to stay in the lineup for 16 games,
so I imagine Bradshaw will start a couple of games at some
point. During New York’s Super Bowl run two years ago, recall,
Bradshaw
was this team’s leading rushing. Derrick Ward ran for over
1,000 yards and caught 41 passes in this role last year.
Bradshaw caught the ball well when he was at Marshall; I imagine
he’ll be their third-down back and
catch about 40 passes. I’ve already got five other running
backs, of course, but I think Bradshaw will work his way into a
scoring position on some weeks. With the flex position, I’ve
got room for three scoring running
backs each week.

Congratulations
to RB Bradshaw for his placement with the defending champion. He
was our targeted player, too. Ladies
and gentlemen... In the search for quality players who are
capable of outstanding games, TE Shockey deserved consideration
and earned this draft slot. If he had five TDs in any month or
five for the
entire season, it would be little surprise. Seldom will you see
as much talent and ego at the same position, as Winslow and
Shockey combine to make TE a strong position on this roster.
It's almost WWE-like to have
them together. What fun!

Last
season we decided two starting QBs was enough - it wasn't and we
paid the price through the last few weeks of the season getting
zero production from our QB slot. We learned our lesson and grab
a 3rd starting QB to bolster our lineup. We thought about
drafting Pennington when we picked Shaun Hill as our #2 QB,
so
to see him still on the board allows us a luxury we never
thought we'd have - a #3 QB that is arguably better
than some team's #2. Pennington was 2nd in QB rating in
2008, only Phillip Rivers was more efficient, and Pennington's
3,653 passing yards put him in the top 10 of all QBs last year
as well. Toss in his 19 throwing TDs, all while playing
for a new team, and we love the upside on Pennington as he
firmly settles into the Dolphin's system in 2009.
