Final Analysis

 11.01
Chris Dolfi | Tom Walls
WR Justin Gage
QB: Rodgers Hill RB: Peterson RBrown JJones Hightower WR: White Evans Avery Ginn Gage TE: PK: DT:

We determined early in the selection process that we wanted to grab a WR here. In this format, the minimum number of WRs you start is 3; so having at least 5 guys who can score is the absolute basic requirement.

We narrowed our search down to 4 guys from 2 teams - Nicks and Hixon from the Giants; and Nate Washington and Justin Gage from the Titans.

We then decided that we wanted to stay away from the Giants players, simply because we view the starting WR race in New Jersey as a 3 horse race; at this point we didn't want to bet wrong and have a guy who wouldn't be on the field for the vast majority of plays.

We chose Justin Gage because he has been with the Titans and Kerry Collins for a couple years now. he is a home run hitter, and we can afford to take some gambles on big game players in this league.

11.02
TC Cannon
WR Hakeem Nicks (rookie)
QB: Brees  RB: Turner Moreno FTaylor WR: Fitzgerald SMoss Cotchery Moore Nicks  TE: Winslow  PK: DT:

RB Maroney? DT Steelers? A QB2?  No. No. No. That recent roll-the-dice move to draft RB Taylor carries
over to here, as I now seek to project the most important Giant WR. It's a more difficult task. Wish me luck....

With both Toomer and Burress exiting, the Giants must quickly advance their youthful receivers into the lineup. WR Steve Smith get the most positive projections and was drafted 30 slots prior and is certainly not promised to be anything special. That single TD pass for the entire season does not earn of a WR1 committment by the Giants. Domenik Hixon was almost his equal -- he scored twice. For better or worst , Smith and Hixon will be the opening day starters. My guess is the Giants will be seeking other options by mid-October. My fortune telling skills say that rookie Nicks will climb from the WR3 slot and be the more targeted receiver the second half of the season. Again, wish me luck.

11.03

Matt Pitzer
RB Jerious Norwood
QB: Rivers Palmer  RB: Jones-Drew Grant Lewis Norwood  WR: Wayne RWilliams SMoss Curtis TE: Olsen PK: DT:

In looking for running backs at this stage of the draft, I like to target guys who have the potential to be stars if
the starter goes down and who have significant roles regardless. Norwood does not get a lot of carries behind Michael Turner, but he can take it to the house on any run, reception or return. That'll make for a couple of nice games at least and if my other guys struggle those weeks, I'll gladly take Norwood's points.

11.04

Greg Kellogg
WR Nate Burleson
QB: Brady RB: Tomlinson Wells DBrown  WR: Owens VJackson Mason SSmith Burleson TE: Clark  PK: DT:
Burleson was primed to break out last season when he went down in the first game of the year. In 2007 he managed nine TDs on just 50 receptions and in his first - and only - game of 2008 he had five receptions for
60 yards and a score. The season was lost but he is back and with Hasselbeck healthy could provide a late round sleeper that ends up starting a couple games for me

11.05
Craig Davis
RB Fred Jackson
QB: Schaub Cassel  RB: Forte Barber FJones Jackson WR: Bowe Edwards Holmes Austin TE: Carlson  PK: DT:

Who knows what type of legal trouble Marshawn Lynch could get into between now and the start of the regular season, and it appears Jackson is next in line. If nothing else, Jackson gets the start in the first three games
of the season and could prove himself very worthy with some solid games, forcing the coaches' hands to use him more than he was used last year.

11.06

Duane Cahill
QB Joe Flacco
QB: Manning Flacco RB: SJackson Jacobs LJohnson Mendenhall WR: Royal Ward Crabtree Burress TE: Gonzalez  PK: DT:

When Peyton Manning is your starting quarterback, you're probably not going to need many games from your backup.  If Manning goes down, my season is shot (see my Tom Brady pick of 2008).  That said, the Unibrowed One surprised most experts with his calm demeanor and steady play last year.  He was good for
a TD a game most weeks, but there was a five-week stretch where he produced two TDs in five of six weeks.  So the way I figure it, if Manning has a bad game, I have a 33% chance of getting a multiple TD game from
his replacement.  Not bad odds for an 11th rounder.

11.07

Tony Holm
QB Jason Campbell
QB: McNabb Orton Campbell  RB: CJohnson KSmith Thomas McGahee Sproles WR: CJohnson Bryant Berrian TE: Witten  PK: DT:
I was hoping for Flacco here, but Jason Campbell will do.  To my eye there aren't many QBs left that don't
have a lot of question marks, many owners still have only one QB and my goal was to walk away with three starters so Jason Campbell is the selection to complete my trifecta.  I'm a closet Jason Campbell fan as I
think he will actually amount to something in the NFL one day.  His rookie WRs of last year are another year seasoned, Chris Cooley is a weapon at TE and it's possible this is the year Campbell takes the next leap in
his progression.  I think I believe more than most in him and will likely see a lot of Jason Campbell on a variety of fantasy teams this season.

11.08

Brian Hulett
QB Marc Bulger
QB: Ryan Bulger  RB: Gore McFadden Stewart McClain  WR: Jennings Marshall Henderson Coles TE: Cooley PK: DT:
Amazing.  They did it to me again.  These guys must be looking over my shoulder.

Objective:  Secure a solid backup QB.  Wish list:  Flacco, Campbell, Bulger.  Result: Look at this pick and the two previous and tell me I'm wrong.

Anyway, while Marc Bulger doesn't have the flash of past years, he's got one thing required of a backup QB in this format:  Job security.  He's also got young Donnie Avery, one of last year's rookie sensations.  Torry Holt is gone, but I expect Bulger can improve a bit on last year's numbers if only due to increased familiarity with the newest Rams system and with his young receiving corps.  A healthy Steven Jackson should help keep defenses honest too.

11.09

Shannon O'Leary | John Georgopoulos
DT Steelers
QB: Cutler EManning RB: Williams Portis Lynch  WR: DJackson Breaston Walter Hester TE: Gates PK: DT: PIT
With a 130 player taken, there seems no real 'starter quality' players undrafted. Rather than build my bench,
we looked to quality PK and DT starter options. Instead of entering that kicker chaos, the favorite FF
defense is the selection.

The strong Steeler defense was very productive during their recent super  season. They were the top-scoring unit and there is no reason to project a dramatic change in their future efforts. (Take that, Cahill.)

11.10

Chris Rito | Mike Nazarek
TE Zach Miller
QB: Warner Hasselbeck  RB: Westbrook Addai Parker Taylor  WR: AJohnson Colston Boldin TE: Daniels Miller  PK: DT:
The two teams that select as we go "around the turn" each do not yet have a TE, so we want to strike now and beat them to this player by getting a super backup that should be a starter in your fantasy league. Miller was
the 2nd-leading receiver for a team who is likely to trail in many games again in 2009....and the two guys with more targets for Oakland last year also will not be back in 2009. We expect that the young QB will need to
rely on his security blanket even more. Miller finished in the top 10 TEs last year despite turning his red zone chances into only one measly TD. Any improvement in that ratio will make him a super valuable contributor,
thus locking up our TE position and giving us another potential flex player.

11.11

Ian Allan
TE Brent Celek
QB: Roethlisberger  RB: Bush White Benson Rice Washington  WR: SSmith  Welker  Gonzalez Ochocinco  TE: Celek PK: DT:
I’ve been window-shopping for tight ends for much of this draft. I nearly selected Dallas Clark at 5.02, 5.11
and 6.02. And I strongly considered Zach Miller at 9.02 and 9.11 (I didn’t have a choice in the 10th round).
Now we’re getting late in the game, and there’s only one tight end left that I really like. I considered trying to sneak Celek through to pick 13.11, but I don’t want to risk losing him. There are still two owners who don’t
have tight ends, and one of them (Dolfi) is based in Delaware, so he might also be on Celek’s trail.

11.12

Mike Harmon
WR Patrick Clayton
QB: Romo Edwards  RB: Slaton Ward TJones Greene  WR: Moss Housh Driver Holt Crayton TE: PK: DT:
Somebody has to step up to claim the looks vacated by Terrell Owens’ departure. Crayton certainly has a chance to do so this fall. He needs to maintain concentration and limit his drops, something Dallas fans and Crayton’s 2008 owners know all too well. Crayton has the ability to trump his 2007 numbers (50, 697, seven touchdowns) if he can impress the coaches to win a job opposite Roy Williams.
