Final Analysis

 3.01
Chris Dolfi | Tom Walls
WR
Roddy White
QB: RB: Peterson RBrown WR: White TE: PK:

With a solid backfield of Peterson/Brown and only one QB off the board, WR was the obvious choice here - especially since we start 3-4 in this league every week.  Almost as obvious was who we should pick in this
spot - Atlanta's Roddy White.  White was amazingly consistent in last year's FAD scoring, only twice missing double digit points. While we would like to see him find the end-zone slightly more often, we're happy to have
a #1 WR who had seven 100+ yard games, and was 4th in the NFL in receiving yards (1382yd) and 9th in receptions (88).  An added benefit in picking White: we avoid injury concerns and insanity concerns. ;)

3.02
TC Cannon
QB Drew Brees
QB: Brees  RB: Turner  WR: Fitzgerald TE: PK:

Stop the press. After four consecutive seasons' of Manning Man Love not resulting in playoff success, this
team is choosing the possibly superior Brees as our franchise cornerstone. Manning's Colts are exciting, productive, and worth rooting for.  Then again, so are the Saints. Sooo.. It's now or never -- Show me what ya got, Drew!

And, Brees certainly has a super positive recent history, as the NFL's leading passer (5000 yards, 34 TDs) in 2008.. There is a surety in this selection that would be absent in selecting QB Manning or an available RB2.
I feel very positive with these starting selections - star QB, RB, WR - and am looking forward to the challenge
of being just as strong as we begin the more difficult early rounds.  Beginning now, most all the 'stars' are rostered, and it's a matter to claiming the significant players that will be both dependable and productive.

3.03

Matt Pitzer
RB Ryan Grant
QB: RB: Jones-Drew Grant  WR: Wayne TE: PK:

I thought about taking a quarterback here but Drew Brees went right before my pick so I moved on to getting
a second back. Grant wound up having a decent 2008, especially after being worthless for about half the season. The Packers score a ton so he should have plenty of scoring chances. And he boosted his catches from 18 to 30 in that half of a good year. I won't be surprised if he gets up in the mid-40s in receptions in a full good year.

3.04

Greg Kellogg
WR Terrell Owens
QB: Brady RB: Tomlinson  WR: Owens TE: PK:
He's old.  He's going to a team with a questionable offensive line and quarterback.  Why depend on him as a number one guy?  Because he performs on the field.  His first year in Philly saw 77 catches 1,200 yards and
14 TDs.  His first year in Dallas saw 85 catches, 1,180 yards and 13 TDs.  Over the past three years he has averaged 78 catches for 1,196 yards and 13 TDs.  That is consistency you need from your WR1.

3.05
Duane Cahill
QB Peyton Manning
QB: Manning RB: SJackson Jacobs WR: TE: PK:
First the bad news:  Marvin Harrison is gone.  Head Coach Tony Dungy is gone.  Offensive Coordinator Tom Moore is gone.  Offensive Line Coach Howard Mudd is gone.

Now the good news:  This is still Peyton Freaking Manning!  The guy is a quarterback genius.  He knows the offense as well as Moore does.  He audibles frequently enough that you could likely call it his offense, not Moore's.  He probably knows the blocking assignments as well as Mudd does.  If ever someone was qualified to be a player/coach, it's Manning.

The Colts did two very smart things.  They had named Jim Caldwell as coach-in-waiting to replace Dungy,
and they moved assistant Head Coach Clyde Christensen into the OC role.  That means that the continuity
with the team's offense will not be an issue.

Manning's total of 27 touchdowns in 2008 was only one off of his career low.  Yet he was still 5th among quarterbacks in passing TDs.  And he added 4000 yards to boot.  He's as close as you will find to a sure
thing, and I'm thrilled to add him to my roster.

3.06

TC Cannon (via Holm trade)
RB Knowshon Moreno (rookie)
QB: Brees  RB: Turner Moreno  WR: Fitzgerald TE: PK::
Fact first. Opinions second. The trade was my 4th + 7th for this 3.06 and a 14th rounder. The personal desire
to claim a productive RB2 caused the trade offer and Tony Holm will certainly benefit from the exchange.

For RBs, opportunity is the most important asset. Any young RB who has a realistic shot at early playing time has the potential to boom immediately. If you're looking for immediate returns, I think you have to favor the RB who can start from day one.

He scored 30 times in two seasons as a NCAA Bulldog.  Certainly, success against Kentucky or LSU is not
a guarantee of NFL headlines. Yet, Moreno was drafted to be their lead back and he can be an every down player. He's a quick and instinctive runner with good 'hands', and is very good in pass protection. He may be taken out at the goalline for LaMont Jordan or Peyton Hillis but the Broncos are going to work Moreno as
much as possible in 2009. And, so will I.

3.07

Brian Hulett
WR Greg Jennings
QB: RB: Gore McFadden  WR: Jennings TE: PK:
I would like to thank my fellow FanExers for allowing Mr. Jennings to fall to me here.  He's a slight bargain at
this point.  Coming off career highs of 80 catches, ~1300 yds, and 9 TDs, now entering a contract year, and
in his 2nd season with the offensive skill unit of Rodgers, Driver, Grant, & Lee, big-play Jennings should build on last year's career highs and could easily take his place among the league's elite wideouts.

When you're competing against a bunch of savvy owners like these guys, to navigate the first three rounds and feel totally positive about your squad is...well, it's a positive.  Let the big dog eat!

3.08

Shannon O'Leary | John Georgopoulos
RB Marshawn Lynch
QB: RB: Williams Portis Lynch  WR: TE: PK:
Getting Lynch in the 3rd round is okay, and we are hoping he will behave himself and get his 3 game
suspension reduced as did Brandon Marshall last year. Lynch is a tough runner and performed well last year
in spite of defenses keying in on him. Terrell Owens is in town, and usually performs well for the 1st part of the year, so that should take some pressure off of Lynch. Lynch did wear down a bit last year, mostly due to nagging injuries so starting off the season slowly might not be so bad in this best ball format..

We wanted Moreno here, but that (cuss cuss cuss) TC traded in front of me and stole him.. TC had offered a similar trade to me, and I knew that Moreno was his target. We turned him down, hoping to land the future
Bronco runner, but that (cuss more) TC moved in front of us!

3.09

Craig Davis (From 3.05)
WR Dwayne Bowe
QB: RB: Forte Barber WR: Bowe TE: PK:
Dwayne Bowe promises to have the best season of his young NFL career, coming into his third (and potentially breakout) season. Bowe impressed the Chiefs in his first year, grabbing 70 balls for 995 yards and five scores. In 2008, he improved upon all of those numbers with 86 grabs for 1022 yards and 7 TDs. Now, with a new pass-happy offense in place and QB who has proven he can get the ball downfield, this was an easy selection here for me in the third round.
===================================================================================

3.10

Chris Rito | Mike Nazarek
WR Marques Colston
QB: RB: Westbrook  WR: AJohnson Colston TE: PK:
This was a tough choice as we had two equivalent players available to us here - WRs Boldin and Colston.
Each pays in a high-octane passing offense and each has a favorable passing schedule. Each is an absolute stud and a red zone threat. Boldin was the #6 scorer in FanEx last year despite getting his face ripped off and missing four games; Colston was a top 5 fantasy WR (42-680-5) over the last 8 weeks once he returned from his injury. In the end, the deciding factors were very small: Boldin has a greater chance to drop off in 2009 with an older QB and the chance of a new address, and he also shared a bye week with our top player.

3.11

Ian Allan
RB Reggie Bush
QB: RB: Westbrook Bush  WR: SSmith Welker TE: PK:
If he can stay healthy, he’ll be a top-10 running back in this format. Probably will catch about 80 passes (again, if he stays healthy), and that translates into about 140 points in this format — 80 for the catches, and 60 for the 600 yards on those catches. Toss in another 70-80 for rushing production and another 45-50 for touchdowns and he should be a heck of back — if he can stay healthy.
===================================================================================

3.12

Mike Harmon
RB Derrick Ward
QB: RB: Slaton Ward  WR: Moss  TE: PK:
Ward shone as part of the multi-back system in New York and will now take the reins in Tampa Bay. I’m
excited to watch him here, as his versatility will be utilized in a shifting offense. I expect to see him catch a ton
of balls out of the backfield and offer solid weekly production. Sure, some combination of Graham and
Williams will eat into his touches, but I still expect 18-20 touches per game.
